The Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service, presents Penny Gomez, CEO of the Digicel Foundation, with an honorary National Service Award at a MYDNS award ceremony held on 30 July at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts.

WEDNESDAY 14 AUGUST, 2024: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – The Digicel Foundation is honoured to receive an honorary National Service Award in recognition of its ongoing contributions to Trinidad and Tobago’s people and youth. The award was presented to Digicel Foundation CEO Penny Gomez by The Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service, at an award ceremony held on 30 July at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA).

This recognition motivates us to continue our mission to empower young people to reach their full potential and to create positive change in their communities,” shared Gomez.

The Digicel Foundation has been at the forefront of youth development for over a decade and runs a number of well-established initiatives that provide youth with the resources to succeed, including the Technology in Education (TIE) and Extraordinary Projects Impacting Communities (EPIC) programmes. In particular, the Foundation’s work has focused on equipping girls and youth in underserved communities with the tools to fully participate in and navigate the digital world.

 

The Digicel Foundation also advocates for inclusion and improved opportunities for persons with disabilities. It has established state-of-the-art Innovation Labs in special needs schools across the country to support the diverse learning needs of youth with disabilities, and is a major sponsor of the Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago.

 

 

The National Service Award was presented to the Digicel Foundation as part of the 2024 MYDNS National Service Programme of Trinidad and Tobago (NSP-TT), a national focal point for the sustainable development of Trinidad and Tobago.
